So I want to avoid direct interaction, but are there things someone might reasonably keep by their front door that would annoy you to see all the time? Specifically, always have long conversations with people in the hallway. I'd always be irritated when my neighbors would strike up 30-minute long conversations, and wait for them to leave before I'd leave, lest I be drawn into some irritating small talk that's hard to escape from.

This is a good idea (this would also annoy me if right outside my door) but the layout of our building is such that there's not good reason for anyone else who lives in our building to be right near our apartment doors. I have been hosting guests much more frequently (not big parties but just frequent dinner parties, having people over for the Super Bowl, New Years, etc.) which I do think aggravates them. So I'm looking for more stuff like this.[/quote]
