5/1 is merely a sign post. If you are new to a big/succesful team you should know already if you are going to get an offer in May. If you are on a big/successful team but are looking to leave, the coach may wait for the right player to deliberate so I agree June  1 is a better date for an official club signing date, where money would then change hands. But everythng prior that is what needs better legislation. The March 1 date in VA is a joke and way too early, its serves not the club nor the families[/quote]
The March 1 date in VA was put in specifically to combat competition from non-ECNL clubs (GA, MLS) who were taking players earlier. They are all competing businesses after all.[/quote]
