This reporter is a jerk.  I’m not happy about kids like this being in the schools either but there are a ton of legal restrictions on what he can say here and grabbing him in the parking lot and trying to badger him into a substantive statement is totally unfair.  I’m sure his response needs to be vetted through the lawyers to make sure it doesn’t violate FERPA or the state juvenile justice laws.  If it were me I probably would have said “I’m sorry but there are legal restrictions on what I can say here.  I will get you an answer but I can’t speak off the cuff on this.  [b]I can tell you that the safety of all our students is of paramount importance and is something I personally take extremely seriously. [/b] Thank you.”[/quote]
