I can’t imagine choosing RMIB when you are zoned for BCC. I doubt many people even apply. Blair makes sense because that’s a program not available at the home school.
+1 Why would anyone do this when you have the program at your home school and a great cohort at BCC?
+2 I can't imagine sending my kid on a long daily bus ride when IB is available closer to home at BCC. I don't see any advantage to that.
I’m zoned for BCC and RM is a 17 min drive. Not exactly horrific. I think some of these posters have waitlisted kids and are trying to discourage folks from accepting spots. I don’t know the answer to OP’s actual question and I don’t have a rising 9th grader, but every year people come on and try to say the various programs aren't worth it to get others to release seats. Take with a grain of salt.
Perhaps for some posters. I respond to these threads to underline the commute issue. By bus, with frequent stops, maybe it's not that short of a drive. High school starts times are very early as it is, and a longer bus route can make or break certain kids, so you've got to know your own child before considering other programs. I'm the parent of a college freshman and an 8th grader, so not trying to release any seats. The college freshman went to a special program in MCPS and really struggled with the early wake-up. Now he's doing much better in college - he's right there on campus, no need to wake up before the crack of dawn! Please consider all logistical challenges.
