I can’t imagine choosing RMIB when you are zoned for BCC. I doubt many people even apply. Blair makes sense because that’s a program not available at the home school.
+1 Why would anyone do this when you have the program at your home school and a great cohort at BCC?
+2 I can't imagine sending my kid on a long daily bus ride when IB is available closer to home at BCC. I don't see any advantage to that.
I’m zoned for BCC and RM is a 17 min drive. Not exactly horrific. I think some of these posters have waitlisted kids and are trying to discourage folks from accepting spots. I don’t know the answer to OP’s actual question and I don’t have a rising 9th grader, but every year people come on and try to say the various programs aren't worth it to get others to release seats. Take with a grain of salt.
There are some parents who just hate RMIB. It don't know if it's jealousy, or just trying to pull it down so that their own HS magnets prestige goes up.
You are projecting your own insecurities. I like RMIB and have a child who attends. People are stating very reasonable opinions that they think BCC to RM is not worth it because BCC is already an excellent school with lots of excellent students and it's the same program they have at home. We are not zoned for BCC but a nearby cluster and if our child's home school had an IB program we would never have sent our child to RM and our child would have never considered it much less had it as their "top choice." It just doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone unless as someone else stated the child has some social situation at the school they'd like to escape.
