Bumping this!! Anyone else facing this choice and have thoughts?
Ignoring the schools, which I have no insight into, the main point of AAP for many is having segregation from General Ed and slower students which bog the class down. Many Language Immersion programs are sought after and typically have A-type parents who know about the program a year+ ahead of Kindergarten, creating a situation where the classroom is largely filled with an already segregated group with supportive parents who likely push their children. In essence, you're already getting a large benefit of AAP without being in AAP. Up to you whether you think your child would benefit more from a different environment, or isnt into the language. there's other aspects to this as well, especially if Immersion isnt in your base school, dealing with local friends, transportation, etc... all of which are personal.
