There are lots of poor kids in Arlington, and that affects the GreatSchools scores. Yorktown HS has averaged a 6 or 7 the past few years. Wakefield HS has averaged 4 or 5. Jefferson MS has moved way up over the past few years. Glebe Elem was a 1 a few years ago and now has a 5. Barrett is now a 6. As the demographics in the county continue to change, the overall scores at each school will continue to go up. Apart from GreatSchools, Arlington schools have been highly ranked on other measurements.

Most families in Arlington know about the public schools' incredible diversity and look beyond the GreatSchools scores; more so than in Fairfax it seems. Funny how most fairfax posters tell families to avoid Annandale HS at all costs when it has an 8 on GreatSchools, and it has always been very highly ranked. Maybe Annandale and other Fairfax County schools teach more to the test than the Arlington schools? [/quote]
