This makes no sense: "We decided on prescription cough meds instead of paxlovid as I tend to get very bad bronchitis with all viruses." Everyone, take paxlovid if you get covid. It basically zapped all my symptoms within 12 hours. But I took it very quickly after the onset of symptoms.
I called my pulmonologist and asked for Paxlovid yesterday because I tested positive for covid. He said it’s really only for people 65+ years old or who are immunocompromised. I have 4 other risk factors for severe covid, but not those two. He said he didn’t think I’d benefit from taking Paxlovid. Consider yourself lucky that you got a prescription.
My doctors adviced against it if you have other health issues.
Your doctor is a dangerous incompetent.
Keep in mind Paxlovid is basically two drugs. There's the primary antiviral component that slows down replication of covid. The second drug is primarily used to slow down the body's metabolism of the first drug so it stays in your system longer. The problem is, that second drug doesn't just affect Paxlovid. It affects a wide range of drugs that are metabolized in a similar way. So taking Paxlovid will significantly interact with many other drugs.
Thank you for this explanation.
