Our family has two working parents, so I get the frustration of the OP. But it's a little absurd to be so shocked about this 3 weeks before school starts, and even more ridiculous to know why the world hasn't risen up to protest when most people like the OP herself don't really care unless/until it affects them. OP, most of us find a way to make it work - stagger schedules, use beforecare, work out a deal with a neighbor. Bus rides tend to build in more time than you'd guess - our 5 minute ride to school generally meant the kids got on the bus a half hour before the 915 bell. It's not ideal, but life goes on, and as the PPs suggest, there isn't necessarily an ideal alternative either. My kids get up at the crack of dawn so I would have been thrilled to get them on an earlier bus, but that's not the case for a lot of their friends. And I don't think I would like little ones standing at the busstop like the HS school students who get picked up before 7am each day (in the dark for much of the year!) For the most part teenagers should sleep later, but that's not necessarily easy to accomplish. If I remember correctly, one of the NoVA counties or cities tried to switch things around a few years ago, and the families of older kids blocked it - the kids need/want the early afternoon dismissals because the burden of homework and extracurriculars and, gasp, for some families PT jobs. Point is, it's all complicated, and there are a lot of considerations beyond the personal convenience of any of us.
