No point in taking it
Teacher is recommending it since kid is doing very well in Algebra 2 and has high MAP-M scores. Thinking might as well and then move into Calc BC.
This was us last year. I asked the dept head for input and he said the same thing. But DS thinks the honors class sounds harder and wishes he’d taken that instead of AP.
Did they make it sounds like the AP pre calc was the harder class? I feel like that is what my son's school is doing but sounds like they are messing it up.
I guess so? Based on info from posters here last year, I called and expressed concern about AP being less demanding than Honors. School told me that’s not correct and any strong math student should take AP. DS says he has a lot of seniors in his AP class and it’s moving more slowly than the Honors class. BUT it’s also possible it’s just moving differently and DS an interprets that to be slower because he hasn’t seen yet in his class what the other class is doing. Students also don’t love the Honors teacher, which may make that one seem harder. So hard to know what’s up other than DS isn’t finding the AP all that difficult (also maybe DS is simply good in math).
