FYI, it is common for association and nonprofit organizations that do not have offices to list the home address of an officer as their business address.  Volunteer organizations typically do not have paid employees, offices, significant revenues, or assets, and represent most nonprofit organizations.

Also, there is a huge difference between nonprofit and 501(c)(3) tax exempt.  Guidestar tracks 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations.  Most nonprofits don't pay taxes on revenue or donations.  But 501(c)(3) oranizations lets donors deduct the donations from their personal taxes.  These are nonprofits that solicit donations that are used for a charitable purposes.  If you have nonprofit that doesn't do a lot of fundraising, it makes no sense to go through thte 501(c)(3) process and the recordkeeping and tax filings that are needed.

So it doesn't mean they are not a legitmate nonprofit.  It just means don't give them a large amounts of money if they solicit it from you. [/quote]
