After probably a year of research of looking at mid-size SUVs with a decent/true third row, we bought the Grand Highlander and so far I really like it. For us, it came down to the Telluride and Grand Highlander, and really, I like both, but at a certain point, we just needed to make a decision. It seems to fit our family of five, including a very tall husband and three tall kids well, and it is definitely an upgrade from my 17-year-old car. I do wish that the warranty were better, but I did not want that to be an overriding factor since there was so much else that we liked and hopefully, Toyota reliability is present with this car and can give us at least some peace of mind.
How long did you have to wait to get the GH? Everything in the DMV area seems to be already sold or has a high markup.
Hi, so it really was a challenge when we first started looking to find cars that were actually on the lot and available rather than ones that were preorders. Once we decided on the Grand Highlander, I would say that it was less than a week before we found our car. Ultimately, we ended up purchasing about an hour and a half from our home, but what did help was a spreadsheet that I found on Reddit that updates daily and shows inventory across the country for all sorts of makes and models. As I started calling the dealerships, I was surprised to find that the information in the spreadsheet was surprisingly accurate. You can filter by state and city, and even see whether the cars allocated to the dealership are pre-sold or available and also if they have a market adjustment. Not sure of the precise source of the file and who updates it, but it really was a helpful tool. The dealership that we bought from wanted to do a market adjustment, but I was able to pull up the link and show that I could find the same model and trim level 30 minutes away without an adjustment and they ended up selling it at MSRP. Not some sort of fantastic deal, but better than paying $3-$4k more. If you can’t find it, I will see if I can dig through my files and pull it up.
