I can have empathy for someone who has a habit they don't have control over, but I also have empathy for someone who is annoyed by that habit and is hosting someone who does it in their home. It's is bizarre to see all these responses telling OP she's a terrible person because SHE has no compassion. For all we know, the hummer is her own parent who she dearly loves but she's also spent 6 years listening to them hum and is kind of losing it because she knows they can't help it and she has to keep her annoyance inside, so she vented here.
