I think everyone knew what elementary they were zoned for. Most people lived relatively close to the daycare. We would sometimes sign up for sports and summer camps together even if we were zoned for different elementary. In that area, all the elementary were similar so it was a casual conversation. I would think if you live in a diverse SES neighborhood or lots of kids go private, maybe people genuinely don’t know and expect to go private or they don’t want to tell you for whatever reason.
