Any info on Oakton high school in particular?
They have strong teams. Girls were district champs the past two years, boys were second last year and first in 2022 IIRC.
I was curious about Oakton too and found results from a couple of their December 2022 meets. It looks like pretty much all the boys who swam in the meets had close to A times or better. For girls it looked like a wider range… some BB or even B times by the fourth swimmer in the lineup. Is the roster size limited to the number of kids needed to put four in each event at the meets? Or do they have a second string of sorts? Are there ever exhibition heats? Kids who usually just swim in a B or C relay? It’s so depressing how hard it is to even make a high school sports team around here.
All dual meets are one heat per event. Most meets our 10 lanes (this depends on the pool the meet is swum at), so 5 swimmers per team. Same for relays. Swimmers who do not swim an individual event are able to swim on relays. Oakton carries around 30 boys and 30 girls. The roster size is limited because they only get 5 lanes for practices, which is also why USS swimmers attendance is minimized, so those who don't have a place to practice elsewhere can get an appropraite practice in. When the whole team shows up on Thursday, its a zoo.
