Do not plan on APS deviating at all for your child. I would call the math department at Syphax with your specific question - don’t bother asking here. I have tried for two years to get them to see unique circumstances and gotten nowhere. Good luck!
DD is taking Alg 1 and Geometry at DHMS in 7th. I’m not sure what happens in 8th but they changed something for one math section.
That is really strange and seems like a horrible idea! Algebra is such a foundational class, why would they combine it with geometry (which is also a foundational class!)
I assume they are two different classes and the kid loses an elective.
But why would you do that?!! You end up taking alg2/trig as an eighth grader, precalc as a freshman, calc ab as a sophomore, calc bc as a junior and then what? If you are a science or engineering major there is a good chance you’ll have to repeat a large chunk of that in college.
I totally agree. -STEM person
I too agree. I don't quite understand the push for kids to be taking advanced math so early. Best case, you skip over 2 semesters of calculus in college. You will still have to take multivariable calculus and differential equations at minimum as an engineering student. You can do all of that even if you take Calculus as a senior in high school and get a 4/5 on the Calc BC exam.
