The fees are so annoying. Restaurants should have pricing transparency. No added fees. I went to Perry’s tonight and they added 20 percent service fee which they argued was not a tip. No. If you add a 20 percent service fee to the posted prices, it is a tip. Never going back there…
Did you tip on top of the fee or hold firm? What did they say the service fee was for if not a tip?
I did not tip. I wasn’t go to pay 40 percent above the list price, which was already high. They said the fee was distributed to their staff as wages…
See, who wants to argue with a restaurant that they’re not going to pay more on top of hidden service fees during an anniversary dinner? DC dining scene has become a toxic wasteland of this stuff and makes it thoroughly unpleasant. We went to a fast casual place a few months back and they added in automatic 15% tips. This place made you get your own food when your number was called and you had to bus your own table. There was no service at all. And on the payment screen there were no options for tipping. The was added without your selection. The only way to remove it is if you sent out of your way to argue with staff to remove it. Ridiculous. So many restaurants in DC have ridiculous fees know. They are mugging consumers left and right like they’re their own cash cows to exploit.
