The statue of limitations on these types of cases have changed recently in many states. There is an understanding that victims of sexual assault might take a long time to process what has happened and come forward with charges. The increased conversation regarding sexual assault and the additional coverage of allegations from a different time when sexual assault was not taken seriously or the victim was shamed and blamed has encouraged people to bring forward old cases. Hopefully, bringing the cases forward will help victims face their past and gain closure.

It is hard today to bring forward charges of sexual assault, victims are still blamed and shamed. It was even harder when I was a kid in the 80’s and 90’s.

The email in this case seems to be an attempt by the school to get ahead of the rumor mill and make sure that parents and Alum understand that this is not a recent event but a past one because the school is aware that there might be some negative publicity associated with them law suit. [/quote]
