He's done this for several years for both of our kids for both Rec and ADP teams and there are sometimes when one parent whose child never comes to practice expresses their frustration when their child doesn't start on game day - or get as much playing time as the parent believes they should - DH always rotates for even play time for all.  Or the occasional parent that gets upset with him because of when and where the league scheduled their games (this is all FFX county and Arlington County).  So there is a small but of drama that he has to deal with - but not often.  Thankfully none of his teams have had any issue with parents acting ugly to him or the ref's at games - but we've seen it a couple of times on the teams they've played.

All that being said, I know DH appreciates the gesture at year end - but it doesn't have to be anything big.  I don't think he's ever coached a team that didn't give him a thank you card and gift card or gift basket.  Some parents are actually too generous and have given him $100-200 gift cards (aside from the group gift).  Honestly, it's the kind words of appreciation from the kids he enjoys most.  The years where the team has done a pizza party after the last game were also fun.
