17y recently switched from 45mg (27mg + 18mg) to 54mg so we only had to deal with one script/pill. No real change from 45mg to 54mg. He is 5'9 and about 150lbs. It very much wears off after 12 hrs or so and he takes a booster.
OP here. Thx! My son is almost exactly this size...I just asked him to weigh himself and he's 152 and about 5'10". We have an appointment with his doctor in 2 weeks and I'm curious about either a dose increase or a ritalin booster for later in the day. He seems to be flailing in the evenings.
Parent of the 17y above. The evenings are miserable for us once it wears off. He only takes a booster if he is going to drive/go to sports practice/has homework he needs to get done. But when he doesn't, it is like he is drunk - rambling, maniacal laugh, hyper...
Was he like this prior - just from ADHD or is this a “come down” from the medication?
It is hard to know. He has been on meds for 6 years so who he was at 10y is different than he is at 17y. He was put on meds because he wouldn't stay in his seat at school, talked out of turn, couldn't get his work done (and was failing 6th grade.) I suspect it is a little bit of both. In the mornings before he has taken it, he is still pretty hyper/maniacal. He takes his meds 365 days a year because his personal/social relationships suffer when he isn't medicated, and we don't allow him to drive unmedicated. He did trial other meds early in the process and the "come down" from those ranged from rage (very much not his personality) to intense crying (also not his personality.)
