DC in the last couple of years did similar near-clear cutting in Hearst Park in NW. Supposedly it was to remove non-native trees, but the effect was to denude and erode the park slopes. The character of the this once green space has been changed, as part of a swimming pool construction project in a corner section of the park. As one DC employee said, "no one wants a shady pool."[/quote]
