As another poster said they aren't looking to build a program they are looking for money. In most older age groups (u13 and above )they held a separate tryouts for the ECNL kids and gave the ecnl kids offers without having them compete against non ecnl players. I guarantee they missed out on someone who is a better futsal player than an ecnl kid but not a better soccer player. IF they were really interested in building a program they would have had everyone compete together and pick the best 10 futsal players.
I think this happens often, bigger clubs hold tryouts or ID sessions, but what I saw was the tops teams were already set. Within 15 minutes of open try-outs, the teams were divided up into 3 tier groups with the top players (who already were wearing futsal team uniforms) going off to practice away from everyone else. Coaches did not seem to have time or interest in bringing new or outside talent to their top teams. --But then, I suppose that is like life. Changing jobs? Often you have to start at he bottom and work you way up.
They need to keep their customer base. People get angry if outside players come in and take spots while they have been "loyal" to the Club and their kid has always been on the top team. Certain clubs the rosters barely change for that reason as well.
