I saw this last night :) Sadly, my child doesn't have the stats needed for direct, although we THINK she will get in anyway. She has been very back and forth on Radford - she attended a summer program there in June of 2021. It was her first time away from home. She loved it then. Then it fell down her list. She did attend an admissions night near fair oaks last year and got jazzed again for a while. Then, it sunk again...and at the beginning of this year she screamed at me she wasn't applying. At this moment, though, it is back in the mix. I think my noting that they will have a new arts building when she starts helped. I think it is a very viable option and the best mix of classes for the major/minor combo she wants. For public schools, her options are Radford and ODU. I think she would thrive at either one.
Maybe consider Longwoood too? and if you can consider private there are quite a few in VA - some with better aid packages than others
We considered all of them. Longwood wasn’t a fit for her. Randolph is actually high on her list as she really likes the Take2 program. She also is applying to Shenandoah and possibly Emory & Henry.
How about Roanoke and Lynchburg?
Also not good fits, but she may be taking some classes at Lynchburg if she winds up at Randolph. They are in a consortium and her major classes would be split between the 2 schools. The second area of interest for her could ONLY be a minor at Randolph, but the Take2 model outweighs that in her view. Trust me, I did an insane amount of research to help her put together a list with criteria specific to her. We have it down to 11 schools, 5 of them in VA. She is happy with the options.
This is one of the PP that suggested Longwood. I wish you and your DD the best and hope she finds the right fit for her. It’s a stressful time for sure. My child had a very specific major in mind. Some schools offer it and some don’t and those schools offered other degree programs that were similar or could offer similar or parallel coursework. I had my child research the career field and talk to some professionals in the field which helped them understand that the specific major was nice but other complimentary majors were excellent choices as well.
