How many here are essentially teaching their kids math, reading and writing at home and then viewing school as supplementary or like "social time"? My child is not yet in FCPS but given what I hear, I don't have high expectations. I just wondering how I'll keep my child learning if they are spending so much time at school.
One has to do this these days. At our school, unless you are below grade level, you are ignored. I asked my first graders when their last reading group their answer was never, but many kids in their class have groups 3X/week. Just not kids who are at or above grade level. Although they kind of do math, it's also the lowest common denominator stuff, like forcing smart kids to do remedial math worksheets over and over to kill their interest. This emphasis on equity is really killing public education.
