I've been to a lot of college tours and every single one starts out with a slide about how much they love love love diversity and they want more of it. (Then you look around the room and everyone in the tour is white or Asian.) PP here. To clarify, my kid is Black. That's what matters to us. Richmond the CITY is 60% Black. State of Virginia is 20-something.

My kid spoke off the record with a couple of students who don't work for Admissions. One said it was sometimes like "Get Out" the movie socially. IYKYK Another said admin & faculty assume they're FG/LI and say awkward stuff.

All praised academics and were confident about postgraduate opportunities. Most said aid helped justify staying. Aid was not relevant for us.

Kid got in EA and was academically excited. But undergraduate social scene  was giving plantation vibes."

OP asked for opinions. I'm sure others have completely different experiences.

Our 2nd child with similar interests and better academics is skipping it.
