We're a mixed Asian family, and always have a few huge bags on hand, because we have Basmati, jasmine, Vietnamese sticky and Japanese sushi rice all going at once. We have a low cupboard dedicated to rice bags of that size, and we usually keep the rice in the original bags and close them with large plastic clips. No bugs in the many years we've done this.
We do the same thing and also have no issue with flies. We have a smaller OXO pop container that we transfer rice to and pull out for cooking so we don't have to go in the bag every time.
NP - same for me. I keep 1 big bag of rice in the pantry, and decant a smaller amount into a taller plastic container with a lid so I can pour out what I need. I've never had pantry moths, knock on wood.
