He/you are too much in a hurry. That’s a major problem with youth sports (and their parents).
Every kid is in their own boat, in highly competitive youth soccer, players in any position don’t have the luxury of wasting time if their goal is to play at a high level. I didn’t know before reading this forum that most of the top youth players don’t play on their HS teams for that reason. His plan is to double down and stick with it, could get better and could help him build character and humility. The jury is still out and he’ll be the judge when the time is right.
100% this. I knew it, but my kids wanted to try the 'school experience' first and I wasn't going to begrudge them that. But, I did see the HS crap my nephews and nieces and friends went through and my low expectations were warranted. My oldest found it a complete and utter waste of time. I was soooooooooo time-consuming. 5 nights a week, games over an hour away, he's be gone 7am-10pm at night some nights. And to play schools that have only 100 kids in their entire 9-12 so not exactly any competition. Then, you are playing at such a lower level. The speed of play is slow. The intelligence on the field is very low. And the risk of injury is so great with players that really aren't skilled enough to know how to properly tackle. My younger one is playing now and so frustrated about the time he is missing for his club team and is jeopardizing his position there. Add in AP/honors courses and a school were the big sports are Football and Basketball anyway and aspirations of college soccer like his older sibling and it makes zero sense. Thankfully, he told me he isn't going to play HS next year.
