The difference I see between Dems and Rs is that the liberal wing of the Democratic Party is loud and pushy, but not ultimately in charge (for the most part). Their ideas are usually moderated when it comes to actual legislation and official Party policies. Republicans, in contrast, have a loud, pushy conservative wing and their leadership actively pursues the fringe as Party policy (halting Supreme Court confirmation of Scalia's replacement, but rushing through RBG's replacement; enacting forced birth legislation in states throughout the country; working against climate-friendly policies; "addressing" the immigration crisis by separating kids from their parents and putting them in cages).

So, while in theory some of the Dems' more liberal policies are further to the left than my own, the Republicans are so much further to the right as a whole that there isn't really any danger of me voting red. The moderate "middle" leans left, only because the right is so much further from the middle.[/quote]
