Boston College Tufts Wash U Tulane Wake Forest Chicago All close to $90K and almost no merit aid. You're either poor or you have (and are willing to spend) $400K for undergrad.
University of Chicago is quite socioeconomically diverse, relative to other T50 private schools.
I think people really underestimate how generous the financial aid is at some of these schools! We are no where near poor - HHI of $160-180k depending on bonuses - and received enough financial aid from U Chicago to make it price comparable to our state school (Maryland).
this is the most eye-opening, useful thing I've learned on the forums recently. Our HHI is about the same ($160-180 depending on the year), we have two kids in elementary, and all of a sudden I feel much less stressed about the future.
Except your kid has to get into Chicago. Easier said than done. Make sure you throw out the screens, have them reading and doing math 3-5 hrs a day, learning a third language, truly developing as a top scholar, etc. Or be good enough to be a sport recruit (also really hard depending on your genetic makeup).
