Just commenting here that my son's ECNL team has had MLS Next players join due to the fact they wanted to play for their high school team. I think it's a shame MLSNext players aren't allowed to do so.
If you voluntarily leave the best league to go to on average subpar coaching, subpar training sessions, subpar competition, subpar teammates and the injury-fest that which is HS soccer, then it is the right choice for you.
That’s too harsh. MLS Next is full of kids who want to go pro, 99% of them who never will lol. Calling ECNL “average subpar” coaching/training/competition is just incorrect. For many kids whose parents are more sensible about highly unlikely possibility of playing professional soccer, the best way to get the most out of soccer for a kid who is passionate about the game may very well be to play ECNL and to also get the experience of playing for their high school with their friends from school. Seems like a smart choice for most tbh.
