Hate to say it, but if you dislike them that much, you probably need to find a different plant-based staple. You aren’t going to eat things you despise. Fortunately there are plenty of other options.
+1 That’s a serious hatred of a food, and that’s okay. I’m wondering if you had a mild trauma around beans as a child or one of those not quite an allergy but your body doesn’t like it things. Or maybe you have made it part of your personality. I just don’t think you’re going to come to beans in your 50s when you don’t really want to.
I'm another 50+ lifelong bean hater. OP is better than I am. I can only tolerate green beans - and only if they're good ones. But it's not due to any trauma involving beans. Sometimes people just really can't stand the taste or texture of certain foods. Just like OP indicated. OP, I agree with other comments about not worrying so much about beans per se and making sure you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables AND DON'T eat much breads, processed foods, and high fat/cholesterol foods. Try a lot of (not deep-fried or breaded) fish, daily salad, a lot of whatever vegetables you can tolerate, and exercise. I don't know what else you're doing or what your lifestyle is; but those are the basic recommendations. My father was thin and active; but died young of heart disease. High cholesterol can be genetic. I and my siblings deal with it. But my mother's side of the family - mom and her parents overweight and enjoyed their sweets and meat etc - never had an issue with cholesterol.
