Ugh. Cancelling this BS was such a great aspect of the pandemic. Imagine just doing your work and not having to pretend to socialize and sit at boring conferences.
Except it is hard to get your work done if you don’t know anyone. I started a new job in April I have been going to work everyday in person. I have attended all company events and work normal hours. When I started a co-worker who started in Feb showed me some stuff. As months roll on he seems to get stupider and stupider. He works from home two days a week, he works a flex schedule and in office only 930am to 530 pm. Usually takes lunch 2-3 Cause he comes in late. Given most of the key people at work he needs to interact with are in the office 830am to 530 pm and take lunch at normal times. He only is in office with coworkers 18 hours a week. He was brand new in Feb and is new to this industry and new to this type of work. Which is fine. But he is picking up knowledge at a very slow rate and now asking dumb questions. He does not attend events so when he gets PIP no one will care. He describes all new graduates, people switching careers. He actually asked me the name of the person he needed data from he could not locate while the guy was in my office
