Probably Arlington. Most of the others nova districts provide in school coverage on the many days off. But not APS.
Loudoun does not.
Practically everyone in loudoun has at least one, if not two, parents who “work” from home.
I’m one of them. I’m in meetings all day, every day. It isn’t feasible for me to also engage my young kids at home on days school is closed, and I’m not comfortable with parking them in front of a screen for 8 hours. So, they go to a camp on those days. Frankly, I’d like to know what school systems provide this in-school coverage on days off that the PP was referring to…I wasn’t aware that was a thing anywhere.
Prince William and Fairfax both run programs at school on all these days off. Not sure abou Alexandra city. Falls church decided not to add all these days off because of the impact on families.
In Alexandria if your kid attends the City recreation after school program, they will have camp on all days off except for holidays and election day. I'm not clear if it's an additional cost. Campagna is the other after school program, and they do not provide camps on days off from school.
So alexandria, fairfax and prince william all have programs on school days off, at least for kids who are otherwise in extended day. That makes a lot of sense and takes the burden off most working parents to scramble for random camps. We have young kids and they hate all the disruption to routine. It would be better if I could send them to the place they were already familiar with and with staff they are used to. And avoid the hunger games of signups.
The Montgomery County after school care providers also provide coverage on the days off. And in the summer.
