Girl Scouts is great for some girls. I could not leave fast enough as a child. It was boring. The Troop didn’t hike or camp or do anything I was interested in. It didn’t work for me and my town did not have multiple Troop options. Cub Scouts does so much more of what I was interested in as a child. Finding a Troop to join is far harder in Girl Scouts and the ability of a Troop to fall apart quickly is totally different then a Pack or a Troop through BSA. They just run differently and that is fine.

And I am tired of the “They are all molesters” crap. Yes, bad things happened in some Troops and Packs in the past. There is a lot of training now. Every Adult has to have a background check. There are rules that good Packs and Troops enforce regarding not being alone with a child that, if followed, keep the kids and the adults safe.

Cub Scouts can be great for a child who wants to do more outdoor activities. By the time a Scout moves to a Troop, at the age of 11, the Scouts should be running their own events and meetings with limited adult intervention. The Adults are there to provide guidance and safety and that is all, which is not that different then a Girl Scout Troop.
