This is so sad to me. If a bunch of new girls were all put together and not integrated with some experienced players, how would the new girls ever have a chance of learning the sport? They would also get clobbered every game. My experience w/ rec is that after 4th grade ... there may be one or two new kids per season on a team, if any. And often those kids are good (often kids are just new to sport but athletic, eager to learn).

What age and sport? My kid is in elementary and not on a super competitive/tournament heavy baseball team right now. A few tournaments, field and umpire costs for league games, uniforms, and winter workout space is estimated to run about $1,200 per kid. I’m estimating another $300 for new gear. That’s not including hotels or travel costs, or any of the team meal/snack expectations.
Elementary schools kids should not be in travel sports. What a racket
If they did A/B teams for rec, we would have stayed. But by 4th/5th its really frustrating to keep starting over with kids brand new to the sport who are afraid of the ball and aren't even generally familiar with how the game is played.
This. If a kid is good enough, rec becomes frustrating and boring for almost every sport
Thats because parents flee to travel. If they didn't flee, rec would be fine.
No. It’s because every year they let multiple kids join the team who have never played and can’t play, joining kids who have played for 5+ seasons. Past the age of ten there should be a separate rec league for “players with no experience” but there isn’t.
