No way it's worth it, and have never seen a hotel breakfast that was the same as or cheaper than similar nearby restaurants. I'll take it for free, but not for $24/person/day. Like you said, so much cheaper to grab croissant and a coffee if you want something light. Even if you want a full hearty breakfast, you can go to a place like this, which is 18 euros for a full breakfast and coffee ($20).
