This is said from a position of great privilege. Many of us do not have $1000 to spend on unnecessary testing. My DC has been diagnosed with ADHD since age 8 and has been on medication for 6 years. There really would no or very little benefit to testing, particularly since he has been through full testing at age 8, 11 and 14.

I’m the PP you’re responding to and I have to agree that it is a privilege to be able to pay $1000. We have little extra money due to college expenses and my younger child is actually waiting on testing because we just can’t afford it right now. Fortunately the HS has been accommodating without it.  I said it was “fairly inexpensive” because I was comparing it to the prices we’ve been charged and quoted elsewhere in the past and currently for my son who is waiting. We didn’t feel we had any choice but to pay for my daughters testing because the university provided a very clear checklist of required documents including that report. I wish the schools would offer free testing because I think it’s unfair for those who can’t pay. But I do not think testing is a waste. College has different demands from HS and the evaluator offered some very good recommendations that others hadn’t included and she couldn’t have foreseen needing in college. [/quote]
