Americans are relatively straightforward people.  We say what we mean and we mean what we say.  Other cultures, including chinese people, are accustomed to saying one thing publicly and meaning another, to saying one thing while believing something else.  "Public sentiment" isn't what is in people's hearts and minds.  [/quote]
