It's because the current middle school is within Cardozo high school and doesn't have its own leadership. The feeder elementary students tend to go elsewhere if they have parents capable of arranging it and a good enough lottery number. The hope is that a freestanding middle school with its own principal, in a nicely renovated building, will be more appealing and attract more of the feeder kids. Eventually building to a better-performing school that attracts a lot of feeder kids like Stuart-Hobson. Eventually.[/quote]
