Struggling to find a name for my daughter - the only one I seem to like is Vivian, but am starting to stress over the fact that a) it's technically a unisex name and I'd prefer to steer away from a potentially ambiguously gendered name, and b) when I Google it, it seems to be used a lot amongst Asians, which isn't really a problem per se but we're white and so I'm completely doubting whether this would be a good fit! Due in a month and had been dead set on Vivian but now feel suddenly panicked... Anyone know any Vivians or could reassure me that I'm overthinking the whole unisex thing? Or else tell me I'd better find something else really quickly!
Yeah, you are really overthinking the unisex thing. As PP said Vivian hasn't been a male name in 100 years. It happens that I know 4 or 5 little Vivians (ranging from 5-12 years old) and they are all Asian or half Asian, but it wouldn't occur to me that it's an "Asian" name and I wouldn't care anyway. It's not like naming your kid Anisha where if you are not Indian people will raise an eyebrow. I don't think most people would raise an eyebrow at a Vivian of any race or ethnicity. It's a very pretty name. If you are still on the fence and want something similar, consider Adrienne or Julianne? Their spellings make clear they are the female version, not the male.
