I think that's it. He also has that unkept ginger beard that makes him look like he's from the Scottish Highlands or Appalachia (same thing really).

Good for him. He got there through grit and honing his talent. If it was the year 2002, the labels wouldn't have given him a shot and he just be another behind-the-scenes songwriter in Nashville selling his tunes. I honestly think movements like "body acceptance" help both men and women who are talented get the public recognition they deserve. The chubby guy with an unkept beard can be a rockstar....why not?
