Biden administration is proposing similar rules to eu. But we don’t have them now
It holds companies accountable. There has to be a well-documented reason for a flight delay beyond 3-4 hours- pending distance- that is completely outside the airline's control. Mechanical issues are not an exemption. 3 hours delayed and under 1500KM you get 250 or canceled (even if they rebook you) within I think it is 14 days before travel, 4 hours or over 1500KM you get 600, same rules regarding cancellations. The airlines can't just willy nilly decide they want to cancel or delay a flight or give up trying to find alternatives. Believe me, any airline flying to/from or within Europe feels it when that plane doesn't take off as scheduled with minimal delays. And it's the law so they don't have a choice. We have been paid more than our flights were.
