No one calls the police if you "want to talk for a few minutes." We don't have enough people on the public payroll to visit everyone who is sad or depressed.
Exactly. OP, all you have to do is refrain from stating that you plan to seriously harm yourself or someone else, as in loss of life or limb. Making bad decisions or unhealthy ones like abusing substances, cutting, etc., is not the problem -- stating that you intend to kill yourself or someone else (or grievously injure yourself or another in a way you can't recover from) IS the problem that causes police to get involved. And if you can't talk to someone for a few minutes without expressing the desire to commit suicide or homicide, then that few minutes of discussion isn't really going to help you anyway, is it? Stay safe. Take care of yourself. And also don't place that particular burden of expressing suicidality or homicidality on someone else without expecting them to take it seriously. they are important, too, just like you. Really. You are important. If you are talking about committing serious harm, then everyone involved in that conversation has to stay safe and act accordingly. Best wishes.
The main problem is, if you are about to harn yourself or already set something in motion to harm yourself, you should be able to call a crisis line and get medical help, with a cop coming and killing you to "eliminate the threat" (and ideally without being involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital)
