It's an uphill climb to get out an incumbent. The best thing Katcher has going for him is that there is nothing on the ballot to bring out voters in meaningful numbers. It will come down to whose voters actually show up and vote.
Josh has GOT to keep low-frequency Democrat turnout down. Got to, got to, got to. The Arlington GOP is doing the right thing saying publicly that they don't want Republicans crossing over to vote in the Democrat primary. Hopefully though word is quietly getting out through CivFed reps and the like that in fact we NEED as many crossovers as possible to drown out a low-turnout Democrat primary vote. Josh has also got to demoralize people. Any "pox on both houses" people favor us rather than people saying "eh the incumbent seems OK let's keep her in." So aside from Kehoe mobilizing Catholics and Arlingtonians (homeowners) to vote against Parisa, the ad also demoralizes people who don't pay much attention and makes them stay home. That ALWAYS favors the challenger as those people usually wind up voting for the incumbent if they do show up. Finally Josh has GOT to counter the other side's get out the vote efforts on Columbia Pike, other non-Fairlington parts of South Arlington, and the Wilson Blvd corridor. Raise the cost for Parisa's people to vote. Josh can work with Natalie and Susan's County Board campaigns to focus on getting the wrong people to stay home or get hung up on the way to vote. I hate to say "time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee" but some well-placed visibility can go a LONG way to shaping this Democrat primary electorate.
