People who back into spaces are obnoxious. There's no safety benefit, and it waste everyone else's time in busy lots. And it sounds like this driver made a mistake, which is their problem.
No, we're more skilled drivers, and we can leave a lot quicker when someone is waiting. Life is full of choices.
Exactly. The morons complaining about back-in drivers are usually the ones barreling out in reverse, almost hitting someone.
For the life of me, I don't understand what's hard about backing out of a space. I've been driving for 25+ years, and have never come close to hitting someone. Because I use my eyes, my mirrors, and more recently a rear camera. It's a piece of cake. If you find it dangerous, you must be doing something really really wrong. Backing into a space is not more dangerous than backing out of one, and the same risks apply. It just takes you longer.
I would be very surprised if backing out of a space did not cause more collisions than driving forward from a space. More people are hit by back overs than front overs in parking lots. I do both. If no one is behind me, I back into a space in one go. If someone is behind me, I go forward. Not coincidentally, I can parallel park on both sides with a few inches to spare on both sides. I have done it in midtown traffic in Manhattan and on the hills of nob hill in San Francisco. I lived for years in uk and Europe where parallel parking on both sides was permitted, so I can also do it in cars with left hand steering wheels. I’ve noticed that the more skilled drivers back in more often. Beginners and people who are unable to parallel park between cars in one attempt are reluctant to try it. I would bet that the people complaining about backing in are the same people who avoid tight parallel parking. They don’t get how easy it is to back in.
