My takeaways (from an EOTP and staying there perspective): 1) if you’re waiting until you’ve got a rising 5th grader to figure out middle school, you’re actually fine. I see two solid middle school feeder options on this list for 5th grade (Mondo Verde -> DCI and Thompson -> SWW@FS). So those loving their IB elementary school but not their middle school feed can breathe a bit easier. Even with a crap lotto number, you can make it work. 2) if you’re in a middle school you love with a bad feeder and are waiting to figure out 9th, that’s a bit rockier. Eastern or Roosevelt are probably your best lotto options if you don’t get into an application school and get a crap number. Even Soujourner Truth and Washington Leadership Academy didn’t make this list.
5th grade at MV would be awfully hard for a kid that didn’t speak Spanish. Also, I don’t think if SWW@FS as an upgrade from SH (do most?) and kids can walk right into an SH feeder easily.
PP here. Which of the schools on this list for 5th feed into Stuart-Hobson?
Me again. So you’re right - Ludlow-Taylor and JO Wilson which are both on this list feed to Stuart-Hobson. Which just proves my point even more strongly. There are decent middle school feeders available if you wait till 5th. You can chill at any one of a number of good elementary schools through 4th grade that feed into middle schools you’re not comfortable with and you’re still basically guaranteed to land somewhere workable for middle school. For parents at Garrison, Marie Reed, good elementary charters without a middle school, Brent, etc, etc, there’s some real peace of mind here.
