I live in DC, so I realize I consciously chose to live in a location without good in state options.  That said, as exemplified here, even solid state options can be pricey.  Our lowest cost option (Pitt with 5K/year merit plus DCTAG (10K/year towards out of state tuition)) would have been 35K/year.  That is not bad in my mind but it is still $140K over 4 years, which is a lot of money.  [/quote]

It is lower than the cost of attending UVA and W&M as noted in this thread.

I went to University of California in the 80s.  Tuition (fees) was then less than $1000/year.  It is now $17K/year, I think Cal state is around $10K/year.  Plus room and board which is similar across schools.

I am not complaining about the cost for my personal situation, we have planned for and can afford college and are the proverbial donut hole.  My point is that yes, it is expensive, even state schools are expensive.  Please identify the total cost of attendance, including room and board, these great state schools that are a bargain.
