Good luck with your roofers, home reno workers, lawn service, tree service, restaurant and fast food workers, home health care workers for the elderly, nursing home workers, produce pickers, seafood processors, meat packing workers, public restroom cleaners, and workers who do every shitty job Americans don’t want to do.
You know what? I live in a rural community. All of the people I hire and who work at local businesses are actually NOT illegal migrants. They are born and bred American workers. It is refreshing. We have many lawn service professionals, roofers, tree service professionals, and fast food workers who were born and raised in this area. Glad to give them the work. Why would I hire an illegal migrant to roof my home? Are they bonded? Do they have insurance? Likely no. Why would I hire someone here illegally to do any kind of work around my home if they can't speak English well enough to communicate? I am all for a guest worker program, but I am vehemently opposed to the employment of people here illegally.
That's nice. So why are you on the DC Urban Moms and Dads board? In the DC metro area, the vast majority of these jobs are performed by immigrants, legal or not. And we don't hire "illegal migrants" as roofers--we hire mostly white contractors who use migrants to do the work. Also, many immigrants who have been here a while are bonded and do have insurance. And the ones that run their own businesses do know enough English to communicate. Why don't you frequent message boards that reflect the reality of your rural community--why waste your time on this board?
