A kid calling their parents by their first names is very 90210 to me - like Kelly calling her mom Jackie.
Alternatively, it's just a teenager thing. I think a lot of teenagers experiment with calling their parents by first names in an effort to establish themselves as an adult and therefore an equal. Most of the time people go back to calling their parents mom and dad, once the teenage rebellion is over. Some kids might continue to use first names as a sign of disrespect, but I'd argue that if your 17 or 18 year old does not respect you as a parent figure, that is likely more your fault than theirs. I know a small number of kind of bohemian families where the adult kids use their parents first names some or even most of the time, but it's not a sign of disrespect, just another way of addressing each other. I don't get the sense the parents mind. These are all high functioning adults with good relationships with their parents. I don't think this is a big deal.
