We are in McLean and use falls church for water but trash services are taken care of by the county. I never knew that people had to contract individually for trash removal. Must be dependent on the neighborhood?
That's correct; it depends. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/recycling/curbside-who.htm
Op here-this is the site that found totally unhelpful. The map is impossible to read so I don't know whether I am in or out of bounds for trash pickup. Such an odd system. Thanks to all those whom posted with suggestions! I guess the first step is to call the county and talk to somebody live to see if I am in or out of bounds (how old school)! And for those who wonder why I (dare) leave Arlington it's simple-I wanted more house and more land for my family. We moved to Arlington with no kids into a house built before time (hello lead paint) and now have several kids, a dog and generally more stuff. While Arlington is great from an amenities perspective, the housing options are pretty limited if you want a spacious house AND a yard. I didn't want a rambler with a big yard or a new construction home on 6000 sq feet. We are just over the border now and can't wait to spread out a kick a soccer ball in our backyard. I'll miss Arlington but it was worth the trade offs...
